PSX/PS2 VAB & VAG Files
by admin on Mai.02, 2009, under VGM
If you ever look at Playstation 1 or 2 Games, soundwise, you might encounter .VAB Files. Those VAB Files are usually Soundbanks, which can contain up to 128 Instruments in up to 16 Tones.
The VAB Files might have the instruments of PSX sequenced music inside them, or otherwise may be used for the Soundeffects in the Game. They can be opened, edited and saved easily with Awave Studio, though this programm has a 30-days limitation.
The official Sony Application to create the VAB Files is the “Playstation Sound Artist”, which can do much more than just handle VAB Files of course
The Instruments inside the VAB Files are in the VAG Format, which contains the waveform to the instrument. The VAG Files are created with the Playstation Sound Artist aswell, more specifically with an application called AIFF2VAG, that comes with the Sound Artist.
