SCC
by admin on Mai.09, 2009, under Soundchips
The SCC was made by Konami together with Yamaha and was used as an expansion soundchip inside several MSX Games aswell as a few Konami Arcade Games. SCC stands for Sound Custom Chip or Sound Creative Chip.
It is also known as the K051649, if used inside arcade systems.
Technical Specifications
- Channels: 5
- Channels 1-5: Each Channel stores the following 4 values: A 32-Byte Waveform, a 12-bit Frequency (= 4096 possible Frequencies), 4-bit Volume (= 16 Levels) and 1 Bit to switch the whole channel on/off.
- Channels 4 & 5: Share the same Waveform, which results in a total of 4 * 32 = 128 Byte of storage space.

- The Arcade Games used the SCC together with several other chips, see the list above for them.
Variants
- K051649: The name of the Arcade Version of the Chip. Exactly the same as the SCC.
- SCC+: See SCC+ (coming soon)
- K052539: Same as SCC+
Emulation
- MSX | MSX SCC Music can be ripped into KSS Files. KSS Files are used to store the Sounds from various Chips and Systems, and thus are rather common. A Plugin for Winamp 2.x / 5.x / Foobar2000 / MacOS and Java is MSXplug (Link). They also work fine in Hoot.
- Arcade | The Arcade Game Music works fine in M1. M1 is a music player which is based on MAME and thus supports a lot of Arcade Games. More about M1 can be found here.

Music Creation
- There are a few Trackers for the SCC which run on the MSX System. For example SCC Blaffer or SCC Musixx. They can be grabbed from msx.org
