K007232

by admin on Mai.09, 2009, under Soundchips

The K007232 was made by Konami and was used in several Arcade Games. Being a chip that plays Wave Data, it was usually used to play Sound Effects. The real name for the Chip is just 007232. It seems to be the successor of the K005289 Chip.

The Chip was used for the first time in 1986 on the Salamander / Lifeforce Arcade PCBs, and after then on many other Konami Games until 1990.

It was usually used together with the YM2151, an FM Chip that is responsible for the actual Music being played.

Technical Specifications

  • Channels: 2

  • Konami TMNT Based Hardware | The K007232 is usually used together with the YM2151, which produced the actual music.
  • Konami Twin 16 Hardware | The K007232 is used together with the YM2151, the YM3012 DAC and the UPD7759C.

Emulation

  • Arcade | Since the K007232 is used inside Arcade Systems, it works fine in M1. M1 is a music player which is based on MAME and thus supports a lot of Arcade Games. More about M1 can be found here.
